Izzy's Kitchen is a project cultivated from 30 years of farm and hospitality experience from Joe and Sharon Carter. The restaurant is named after their daughter Isabella. The restaurant is a spinoff vision from Uptown Market and Deli which Joe and partner Wendell Sprouse owned together. The restaurant can seat 40+ on the inside another 40+ on the patio when weather permits. There is a full bar, wine and beer list, and specialty cocktail program. Many of the meats are made in house. Brining, curing, smoking, and roasting meats are the marquis specialty of the restaurant.
Izzy's Kitchen is located in the beautiful Museum District. We grow vegetables and herbs out front and buy others from local farms and markets. Joe has 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry and graduated from VCU. Nowadays Joe spends most of his time enjoying the art of making all varieties of meats and provisions. He was raised on the family cattle farm in southern Chesterfield County. The farm no longer has beef cattle but is the future sight of Izzy's Provisions which will be the wholesale arm of the business. The farm is also home to 3 acres of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries. The berries were cultivated and managed by Joe's brother Jerry, wife Lisa-Paige, and their sons (Avery, Douglas, and Russell). The farm is also the site of seasonal plantings that will enhance the flavor and freshness of our menu.
Sharon is a photographer and handles all the photography and design projects. She was previously a senior paralegal at a local law firm. She hails from Costa Rica and is integral in the operation of the restaurant.
Wendell Sprouse is a partner and true connoisseur of beers of all regions and styles. He selects the beers that make up our small but thoughtfully formulated beer list.
Last but not least is our friendly and knowledgeable staff headed by Joe McDowell. Joe is head of the cocktail program and brings new and exciting flavors every week to help elevate the customers' experience.
Our restaurant is available for private events: weddings, business lunches, dinners, cocktail receptions, and more. We would love to discuss how to be a part of your next event.
We refuse to compromise on quality in our restaurant. That's why we source our fresh ingredients from local farmers' markets and farms whenever possible. We also make as many items in house as possible. Our approach is to take as many harmful chemical and products out of our food as possible. The goal is to bring a style of food that is clean, fresh, and flavorful. We also pride ourselves on being friendly and approachable with emphasis on being a positive for our community and neighborhood. We strive to be good stewards to the earth so we compost our vegetables and recycle as much of our waste as possible.
